Bristol Airport has announced that Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, will launch a new direct service between Bristol and Frankfurt, Germany, from May 2027.
The airline will operate the route twice a week, with flights scheduled on Mondays and Thursdays. The new connection is expected to appeal to both leisure and business travellers, offering a convenient option for short city breaks, business trips and longer holidays.
The service will also provide passengers with convenient onward connections from Frankfurt. Through the wider Lufthansa Group network, travellers will be able to connect to more than 150 destinations around the world.
The new route is also expected to strengthen tourism links between Germany and the South West of England. Bristol, Bath and the surrounding region are already popular with German visitors, and the direct connection is expected to make travelling to the area easier and more attractive.
Discover Airlines sees Bristol as a strong addition to its network, particularly as demand continues to grow for destinations offering culture, nature and outdoor experiences. The Bristol route will also become the airline’s first destination in England.
For businesses across the South West, the new service could provide additional opportunities to connect with Germany and international markets. The route is expected to support both business travel and wider economic links between the region and Europe.
Bristol Airport has welcomed the announcement, highlighting the benefits for both business and leisure passengers. The new Frankfurt service will complement increased capacity to destinations in Germany and Switzerland planned for 2027.
Frankfurt is an important European transport hub and one of Germany’s major financial centres. Beyond its business importance, the city offers a mix of historic architecture, modern skyscrapers, restaurants, cultural attractions and extensive green spaces.
The route also gives visitors access to attractions beyond Frankfurt, including the Rhine Valley, the Black Forest and Germany’s famous thermal spa destinations.
With Frankfurt Airport serving as one of Europe’s largest aviation hubs, passengers travelling from Bristol will have access to a broad range of onward travel options. High-speed rail services and major road connections also make Frankfurt a useful gateway for exploring other parts of Germany and Europe.
The launch of the new service represents another expansion of Bristol Airport’s European network and is expected to provide greater choice for travellers across the South West from summer 2027.
