Bristol Airport has today announced its appointment to the Jet Zero Taskforce, a UK Government group dedicated to advancing sustainable aviation.
Clare Hennessey, Bristol Airport’s Director of Planning and Sustainability, will be joining the Taskforce’s Expert Panel, which is led by the Aviation Minister, Mike Kane, and includes senior industry figures including Airlines UK CEO Tim Alderslade and IAG’s Group Head of Sustainability, Jonathon Counsell. The Panel’s aim is to pinpoint key barriers to decarbonisation, and its diverse membership has been specifically chosen by the UK Government to represent all corners of the industry.
Speaking after the announcement, Hennessey said that: “Airports will be critical to decarbonising the aviation sector, putting in place the infrastructure and supply chains to enable the use of SAF, hydrogen, and electric aircraft. We’ve already made real progress in reducing our own emissions as we move towards achieving net zero operations by 2030, and look forward to sharing what we’ve learned with the new Jet Zero Taskforce.”
The Taskforce is the successor to the previous Jet Zero Council, which was launched under PM Boris Johnson, and which closed last month. It aims to support the production and delivery of Sustainable Aviation Fuel and zero-emission flights, whilst also looking to make existing aviation systems more efficient. The members of its plenary group include ZeroAvia CEO Val Miftakhov and Boeing’s regional president Maria Laine, as well as CEOs and directors from several major UK airlines and airports.
