Jet2, which was recently named the UK’s most punctual short-haul airline, has converted its order of 35 A320neo aircraft to the larger A321neo variant, as reported by Jethro’s Fleet Listings.
The carrier placed its first Airbus order for 36 A321neos in September 2021, with Philip Meeson, its Executive Chairman, saying at the time, “[We] will be proud to operate the Airbus A321neo in the years ahead. This aircraft is, in our opinion, the most efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft in its class today – it will give our holiday customers a wonderfully comfortable and enjoyable experience as they travel with us for their well-deserved Jet2holiday.”
In October 2022, Jet2 expanded this order by entering into an agreement to purchase 35 A320neos from the European airframer, bringing its total to 98 firm-ordered aircraft. This has since been increased to 110 through the conversion of further options into firm orders.
The latest increase will see the carrier shift to a single-type Airbus fleet, alongside its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with a focus on increased capacity; the A321neo seats 46 more passengers than the smaller A320neo and 737-800.
